Photographing Denise Rae’s Holiday Pajamas
This December, I’m excited to share images from my recent collaboration with Denise Rae, a New Jersey-based designer whose holiday pajama collection celebrates the joy of togetherness. Her vibrant patterns and cozy designs embody the magic of the holiday season, making this shoot feel like stepping into a scene of shared laughter and cherished traditions.
But beyond the studio, this shoot led to a discovery that made the experience even more meaningful.
After wrapping up our session in New Jersey, Denise offered to drive me and the model back home. What began as a simple car ride turned into a shared journey through the unexpected. At one point, as we chatted, Denise missed her turn and announced with a laugh,
“Now, girls, you’re going to see Washington Heights!”
What she didn’t know was that this area held a special place in my heart. I lived in Washington Heights for five years, and the streets still feel like home from a chapter of my past. As Denise navigated her way back from the bridge, I discovered she had also called Washington Heights home for many years. It felt serendipitous—two creatives, now working in New Jersey, with roots in the same vibrant neighborhood.
This small detour reminded me how much places can shape us. Washington Heights is a neighborhood full of energy, community, and culture, and even though we’ve both moved on, it still feels like a piece of home.
Denise Rae’s holiday collection captures that same sense of home. Her pajamas are made for moments—whether you’re sipping cocoa with family, unwrapping gifts by the fire, or just lounging with a good book. The patterns are bold yet inviting, and the fabrics make you want to stay in them all day.
For this shoot, we wanted the atmosphere to match her designs: warm, lively, and genuine. From festive props to effortless, candid poses, each frame reflected the easy joy these pajamas bring to any occasion.
Working with Denise Rae has been an opportunity to not only showcase her beautiful designs but also to connect on a deeper level. It’s moments like these—unexpected detours and shared histories—that remind me why I love collaborating with local brands.
As the holidays draw near, I hope these images inspire you to find comfort in the little things: cozy mornings, heartfelt conversations, and the memories that make a house feel like home.
